The Law on Sec. 498A IPC

Right from its inception section 498A IPC has been controversial. The legislature said that this law was a necessity to curb the incidences of cruelty on the wife in her matrimonial house. Husbands said that it was a torture of him and his family in the hands of wife with the help of a legal tool. Wives said that the provisions of Sec. 498A fell short of their expectations and they ever aspired something more ‘astringent’. The police said that they undertook more pain to help the real victims; may it be husbands or the wives. The police said that they after their enquiry always tried to find where the wrong is.
